Mazingira - Environment and Climate Change Program

Overview

Environmental sustainability is critical for marginalized communities that depend heavily on natural resources for survival. Mazingira addresses pressing environmental challenges such as pollution, deforestation, and climate change while promoting conservation efforts that improve livelihoods.

Key Activities Under Mazingira:

  1. Tree Planting Campaigns:

    • Over 50,000 trees have been planted so far with a goal of reaching one million trees by 2030.

    • These campaigns involve women, youth, and children from marginalized communities as active participants in conservation efforts.

  2. Community-Led Climate Action:

    • Educating communities on sustainable practices such as renewable energy adoption, waste management solutions, and water conservation techniques.

    • Encouraging local leadership in environmental initiatives to foster ownership and long-term impact.

  3. Livelihood Opportunities Through Conservation:

    • Promoting eco-friendly businesses such as beekeeping or agroforestry that align with conservation goals while generating income for participants.

Mazingira empowers marginalized groups to become stewards of the environment while addressing the adverse effects of climate change.
